About Us

Thalamus was founded in 2001 based on the desire to help formalize the mechanisms for action in some of the less fortunate communities in Rio de Janeiro. Experience acquired through voluntary work formed the initial basis for structuring the organization and its working relationship with its immediate partners: Instituto de Atendimento e Pesquisa Psicossocial - IAPP, Creche Tio Beto, Creche da Vovó Carmem, Colégio Anglicano de Araras e Obra Social Leste Um – o Sol.

We shape our actions specifically for each case, be it an individual with ideas to start a social project, or something already under way needing logistical, human or financial support.

Over the years, Thalamus has also developed some of its own projects, such as the children’s character Zeko and the regular Doar Sangue Campaign, both in Rio de Janeiro and nationwide.

It has supported several cultural projects, such as Piano Solo, O Cientista and Fala Crioulo.

After a decade of activities, Thalamus is renewing itself and becoming integrally involved in the crucial socio-environmental moment in which we all live. We are turning our attentions back to interpersonal relationships, being convinced that great changes start with an attitude of someone close to us, one which affects and motivates us.
